"What am I going to use this for?"
It's a big question for many students, particularly those who aren't too keen with mathematics. So, what *will* a student do with the math concepts they are working so hard to wrap their brain around understanding?
John F. Kennedy High School Instructor Susan Martin knows all too well how difficult math can be… as both an adult, and as a student.
"I'm a visual learner, and I had trouble with math growing up," Martin said.
Something eventually clicked for Martin, guiding her toward a 24-year career in Construction trades: some students simply need a visual guide, or a tangible hand-held point-of-reference.
In the case of this class, it's a housing frame — blueprints — and drywall.
For the past four years, Martin has taught Construction Technology in Denver Public Schools (DPS) for JFK High School students.
This video features a bit more about how the program is helping students who were once not interested in math, fall in love with the subject.
