As an architect, Doug is traditionally used to designing large homes, but when it came to his own house, he decided to go for something different and instead designed and built his own tiny house on wheels.

With his experience in architecture and design, Doug has been able to build an incredible tiny house, which is not only efficient in it's use of space and high performance materials but is practically designed for full time living.

Located in Wanaka, New Zealand this tiny house on wheels has found a truly wonderful parking spot right by the river. Hight house prices in the area have encouraged many to search out alternative living situations and the tiny house movement is now flourishing. The home's off the grid design allows it to be parked and lived in anywhere, with solar power supplying all of the homes energy needs.

FREE WILL not just America …boondocking or disperse camping is done all over the world. Canadians can camp on crown land (govt owned) up to 3 weeks before you have to relocate and dare I say we have A LOT of crown land. If you don’t need campground amenities it’s the only way to go.

@Linda Your right, this is a very beautiful area of New Zealand. I was traveling by bicycle from Auckland all the way down the north island. With the fairy down to the south island, after that all the way down to the south on the west coast then across to the East Coast and up all the way to the north to Auckland. This was one of my greatest life experience I never will lose. I meet lots of friendly Kiwis and we had great time together. ?????????

True. Apart from it being cozy, it’s a lot easier to clean. I, too, am gathering ideas for my retirement home. Tiny house off grid in a biggish land with a catio attached & a big yard for the dogs to run around, birds to play, & dry my laundry under the sun. Bliss!

@Kas Kahea It is a tiny house, 60k is a lot if you are doing the majority of the work. He didn’t even put a bathroom in there. The design and layout was terrible and the fit and finish was even worse.

It’s about 7 years to break even on this given the savings in rent with inflation and rent increases that probably goes down to about 5 years but this will probably still have a resale value of 40k at that time so overall it’s a great investment. I think you probably save a lot more just living the simple life and not buying new things all the time to fill your large home

Olhamo When I purchased it in the USA from a builder of commercial displays it was called “Slat Wall” That was in the 1980’s it was made from MDF or Composite board and was very heavy per 8×10 foot sheet.

Very nice home, I’m not a fan about walking outside to use toilet and shower, but I really like the homes feel and I LOVE the wall shelf system. I need to use that idea ? thank you.

Nikenik2001 That’s amazing to hear! This gave me a little bit of hope because I suffer from anxiety and depression too but I am still trying to get better ? Stay strong and happy! Lots of love ?

His accent is interesting. I can’t quite place it. It sounds like Canadian (or some regional US accent), with a bit of Aussie or Kiwi. His “r” sounds (water, matter) are very North American to me. Listen around the 2:25 mark. You’ll hear it.

@Joe Black It has a shower no sign of a toilet and you have to go outside to use it another brilliant design flaw that puts you back in the past 200 years, winning! Oh wait no.

A shallow view of what an architect does? That is an architect’s job. Id love to see you pay thousands for some plans from that guy.

@Joe Black You get an architect to design buildings to code and or make it beautiful. Tiny houses dont folloe codes and his place isnt beautiful the design language is ikea’s stuff they made wrong and poorly. You also design for functionality and nothing but the wall was clever or well designed except for the wall and it looks like a child made it, it doesnt even have a bathroom which limits its usefulness and where you can use it. You can argue subjectivity all you want, but once you compare this to all but the shittiest builds it is objectively bad.

his effusive sucky personalty makes me sick; strictly for immature people who like big happy happy faces to brighten up their dull lives – i only endure as much as i can of him to check out the tiny home

Definitely the South Island. I live in the lower North Island- very green, but just miles and miles of farmland. Not quite the fairytale world of the lower South Island that people think of NZ as.

Bryce, i don’t think you know ( and i hope you never do, because it is clearly a great gift
you were given) how much your beautiful manner and vibe, and strong energy means,
; that you listen so attentively and with such heart, and report, contribute in an egoless manner, with joy, and then — summarize so concisely, and appreciate, ( and please accept my accolades to your cinematographer, and, for the editing!) and when you shake the owner’s hand at the end it is a serious “moment” that reverberates… You make me want
to shake your hand, one day! That is so not a small potatoes thing… All the best to you, and your partners !

There’s nothing wrong with being gay, I don’t know why people use it as an insult. It’s how people choose to live but our society is hard to accept unique people. We have come a long way but we are not perfect because of people like you and there’s always a new problem, if you think being gay is a bad thing then that’s just sad for you, not being able to process and accept other people’s choices. Having your opinion is fine but if it is mean/rude/offensive then keep it to yourself.
