SUMMARY:Procurement In Construction - What you need to know
DESCRIPTION:Join our next Northern Skills Academy learning event ‘Procurement in Construction – What you need to know’\n\n\n We’re pleased to invite you to our next Skills Academy learning event! \nWe have partnered with DAC Beachcroft LLP to deliver our next virtual learning session via Webinar. \nBillions of pounds a year are being spent on capital construction and infrastructure programmes. Organisations with large capital projects are having to take a look at how procurement can assist them to build and maintain the critical infrastructure for these projects. \nWhat sets the construction industry procurement apart is the complexity of projects. Other influences such as logistics\, available technologies\, finance\, labour availability and even the weather all affect the ability of a project to be completed on time\, on budget and to a high quality. \nIt is therefore crucial that organisations use their spending power not only to ensure they achieve best value for money\, but are transparent\, include sustainable / carbon reduction measures and take into account the social value aspect. \nThe key focus areas of this session will cover: \n – Types of construction procurement \n– Contract options: JCT v NEC \n– Collateral warranties\, bonds/PCG and retention \n– The Construction Playbook (Government Guidance issued Dec 2020) \nThe speakers for the session include: \nBen Thornycroft\, Partner \nBen specialises in construction and engineering procurement and contracts. He has prepared and negotiated documentation for a wide variety of projects in the private and public sectors acting for owners\, developers\, contractors\, tenants and funders. He promotes effective and pragmatic solutions and is currently involved in a range of schemes\, including a variety of projects for public and independent sector health clients from refurbishment to substantial new facilities\, schools projects\, renewal of court buildings\, hotel and new supermarket developments\, infrastructure and waste to energy projects. \nRachel Gibson\, Legal Director \nRachel Gibson is a construction and engineering law specialist and has acted for authorities\, funders and contractors across a variety of different sectors including waste\, transport\, education and blue-light. Rachel has experience in drafting\, negotiating and advising on the key standard form construction and engineering contracts including JCT\, NEC3\, MF/1\, FIDIC and LOGIC. She also has extensive experience drafting and negotiating bespoke contracts for complex projects. \nWe look forward to having you join us and we’ll send you joining instructions the day before the event. \nThis event contributes to your Continuous Personal Development plan so do remember to log your attendance. \nPlease note: this session is not open to suppliers\, please do not use personal email addresses when booking.

SUMMARY:Advanced Construction Accelerator Webinar
DESCRIPTION:.\n\n\nOn the 2nd of November\, Connected Places Catapult will be hosting an information webinar to introduce the brand-new advanced construction accelerator. \nThe main aim of the accelerator is to increase the capacity of the sector to innovate. This will be achieved by bringing together a consortium of industry partners led by Connected Places Catapult who will explore and trial new technologies collaboratively with SMEs\, while also providing the cohort with the necessary support to scale. \nThe information webinar will provide further details on the specific challenges which the programme will look to address\, the support available to successful SMEs and will guide potential applications through the application process. \nAbout the Advanced Construction Accelerator \n \nThe programme will offer 10 SMEs at TRL 6-8 various business needs and technical support over the course of 6 months. Selected SMEs will also have the opportunity to engage with a consortium of industry partners which includes Ferrovial Construction and Ibstock plc. \nThe consortium will offer commercial guidance and testing facilities to help the cohort to validate their offering via technology trials. \nThe programme is designed to explore specific challenges set by industry and will seek SMEs with products and services which can clearly address these. These challenges will fall within the three main programme themes of: \n\nStreamlined Operations – Innovations that improve the delivery process of construction projects\, enabling better outcomes for both clients and suppliers. \nCarbon reduction – Innovations that support greener operation and delivery of construction projects within the UK and which align to the government’s Net Zero ambitions. \nDigital Future – Innovations that facilitate the transition to a digital future of construction. The digital future of construction will involve the use and application of digital tools that make the delivery\, operation and renewal of our built environment safer\, more efficient\, and more collaborative. \n\nConnected Places Catapult will be delivering the programme in partnership with Startup Discovery School who will support the SMEs through a bespoke programme roadmap tailored to their unique business needs – this will include but is not limited to investment readiness\, business modelling\, customer profiling and enterprise selling.

SUMMARY:CPD Event: Advanced Industrialised Methods for the Construction of Homes
DESCRIPTION:Free Lunch & Learn CPD Session: Advanced Industrialised Methods for the Construction of Homes (AIMCH)\n\n\n\nStewart Dalgarno\, AIMCH Project Director & Director of Product Development at Stewart Milne Group looks forward to delivering this CPD session to CIAT Scotland East Regional members. \n”AIMCH is a fantastic R&D project. It is a housing industrialisation project about bringing mainstream offsite construction to marketplace\, I believe it will be a game-changer for the sector. Our focus within AIMCH is about delivering mainstream panelised offsite construction methods that are the same cost or less than conventional methods of construction..” \nIt is expected that AIMCH will result in new digital design tools\, manufacturing advancements\, improved near-to-market offsite systems and lean site processes. The ultimate goal of the project is to support the sector by delivering the 120\,000 target for the same or less cost than traditional craft methods\, which are built 30% more quickly plus have the ambition of 50% reduction in defects. The project has potential to impact on 35\,000 homes being delivered by AIMCH partners across the UK\, each year. \nwww.aimch.co.uk

SUMMARY:WEBINAR: An insight into claims for disruption on construction projects
DESCRIPTION:Driver Trett free webinar\n\n\n\nWe have first-hand experience of how contractors’ can spend significantly more than planned on labour and equipment during the course of a construction project. \nWhen we think about how competitive the pricing of tenders can be\, especially in tougher market conditions\, a contractors’ overspend on labour and equipment can extinguish a projects profit margin. Through our experience of assisting contractors in the Middle East region over recent years\, contractors are looking towards disruption claims more frequently now as a means to recover these overspends. \nDriver Trett are pleased to invite you to their free webinar on an insight into claims for disruption on construction projects in the Middle East\, which will take place on Tuesday 24 November 2020 at 11AM UAE time. \n \nDISCUSSION POINTS: \n\nAn increase into the preparation and submission of disruption claims in the region during the past 24 months.\nThe difference between delay and disruption claims – differentiating between the methods that are used to assess the heads of claim and also the costs claimed that are very different.\nThe limitations in respect to demonstrating loss of productivity\, and evidencing this head of claim.\nIdentifying the cause and demonstrating the effect.\nThe various methods for evaluating loss of productivity\, and\nWhat a typical disruption claim should contain. \n\nSPEAKERS: \nStefan Panourgias\, Managing Director Middle East \nStefan has over 17 years’ experience within the construction industry\, providing delay analysis and programming services to contractors and developers on various complex construction projects ascertaining the facts of delay and demonstrating cause and effect in relation to the preparation and/or defence of extension of time claims using a variety of delay analysis methods. \nSteve Powell\, Associate Director \nSteve has over 25 years’ experience in the construction industry\, working for internationally recognised firms. He has particular experience of Contractors Claims preparation and negotiation for matters of delay and disruption\, together with quantum assessment\, detailed audit of cost ledgers\, valuation of variations\, preparation of variation claim narratives for use by Quantum Experts and providing advice for Arbitration cases. \n** Joining instructions for the webinar will be sent by email upon registration.
